Chaya was born in 1892.  Chaya's father was Wolf Bernstein and her mother was Yente Kreine Gittelman.  Her maternal grandparents were Shmuel Moshe Gittelman and Miriam (Mushe) Lewinstein.  She had four brothers and four sisters, named Boris, Max, Schmerel (Shmaryahu), Israel, Anna (Chana), Ida, Bella and Sarah.  She was the second oldest of the nine children.  She died at the age of 50 in 1942.
