Norman was born on March 28th, 1928.  Norman's father was Maurice Kaplan and his mother was Thelma (Tilly) Sher.  His paternal grandparents were Boruch Kaplan and Chana Pesa (Annie) Gittelman; his maternal grandparents were Jacob Sher and Nora (Nechamah) Cohen.  He has a sister named Barbara Helen.  He is the older of the two children.
